cTrader Demo Account - Frequently Asked Questions

A Demo Account offers a risk free trading environment for practice purposes. Functionality and market rates are identical to a live account, and the account will use ‘virtual’ funds.The Demo Account is completely free and you cannot withdraw any virtual funds gained from the account. Test and practice your forex strategies using real FX market quotes without risking any real money.

After confirming your email address, you will receive your unique cTrader ID (cTID) and password to which will allow access to OMF cTrader. The platform software links to automatically download the platform will also be included.

Your complimentary OMF cTrader demo platform will expire in 30 days from registration unless a specified period is arranged prior by the OMF cTrader team.

If you are using the cTrader demo, you do not need an account with OMF.
If you want to trade using the live cTrader system, you are required to open an account with OMF by completing the client application form and providing the supporting documentation. OMF requires you to read and accept the General Terms and Conditions before opening an account.

Opening an account with OMF is easy. A simple application process ensures that you can start buying and selling currencies to meet your requirements with minimal hassle.

As a fully regulated NZX Broker, OMF is required to verify the identity and residence of each of its customers under NZ Anti-Money Laundering Laws. Failure to provide any required documentation will result in delays to the opening of your OMF cTrader account.

Yes. Although you cannot be logged into multiple accounts from one instance of the platform, you can open several instances of cTrader (separate cTrader platforms running at the same time on your computer) and log in to different accounts accordingly.

Yes. As long as you have the correct login details, you can login to the platform from any computer, provided your connection settings are correct and the connection is not being blocked by a firewall or your ISP.

To access your OMF cTrader DEMO or LIVE account requires the registration and use of a cTrader ID. This allows you to create watchlists, save workspace templates, link accounts, set email notifications and much, much more. Your unique cTrader ID is your email address registered with the cTrader account opened (either DEMO or LIVE) and is used across all modes of access to OMF cTrader (cTrader Web, cTrader Desktop (Windows) & cTrader Mobile). When you apply for your OMF cTrader account (DEMO or LIVE), you will automatically be sent email instructions on how to register your unique ID which will include the ability to set your own password.

OMF does not charge for any NZD deposits or withdrawals to your OMF cTrader account however there are telegraphic transfer charges to send funds overseas.

All withdrawal requests are processed the same working date we receive them, during out business hours (9:00- 4:30 NZT). A bank wire transfer normally takes 2-4 working days to reach your bank account.

Please note that under certain conditions deposits or withdrawals may take longer to process, this could be due to missing documentation or requested information.

cTrader supports NZD, AUD and USD

The minimum deposit to open a trading account is NZD10,000 or the equivalent in any other major currency.

The Base Currency is the first currency quoted in your currency trading pair. If you are buying a currency in exchange for another, it’s the currency you are buying. If you are selling a currency for another it’s the currency you are selling.

OMF is authorised and regulated by the NZX and the Financial Markets Authority (FMA). Client funds are held in a client segregated funds account.

• New Order(Ctrl+O): Open the “Create Order” window
• New Chart: Choose with which Symbol you want to create new chart
• Sign in: Log in to a live or demo account, create a new demo account or change connection settings
• Open Demo Account: Fill in your details to open a demo account
• Open Live Account: Open your broker’s webpage so that you can open a live account
• Exit Spotware cAlgo (Alt+F4): Closes the terminal. All active robots will be stopped, but any open trades will not be affected

• Single-Chart Mode: Switches to ‘Single Chart’ mode. In this mode the selected chart is displayed using all the available application space. The other open charts are displayed as tabs above the selected chart.
• Multi-Chart Mode: All the opened charts will be displayed in a grid pattern. cTrader uses a ‘Smart-Size’ technology, which adapts to the window size and dynamically changes the window sizes of any open charts to achieve the best viewable results.
• Cursor: With the ‘Mouse Cursor’ option selected you can move the chart itself and objects drawn on it.
• Crosshair: The ‘Crosshair’ option enables you to pin-point exact areas in time and market price and measure the difference (Pips/Periods/Price) from the starting point. If there are imposed indicators (chart, indicator window) their values will be displayed.
• Market Snapshot: By selecting this option you can click anywhere on the chart to display a price snapshot of the currency pair’s – Time/date/Price/Open/High/Low/Close/Volume values. If there are imposed indicators (chart, indicator window) their values will be displayed.
• Trend Line: The ‘Trend Line’ helps to explore market trends. Two points must be chosen for a ‘Trend Line’ to be imposed on the chart. Click the left mouse button and hold, while dragging to your preferred position. Once the left mouse button is released the line will be set. After the line is set you can edit the positioning of the line by clicking on it and dragging it to another position. If you click on either end of the line, you will be able to edit the positioning of that point on the chart.
• Horizontal Line: The ’Horizontal Line’ can be used to mark support and resistance. One point must be chosen to impose the ‘Vertical line’ on the chart. After the line is set, you can edit the positioning of the line by clicking on it and dragging it elsewhere.
• Vertical Lines: The ‘Vertical Line’ can be used to define periods. One point must be chosen to impose the ‘Vertical Line’ on the chart. After the line is set, you can easily edit the positioning of the line, by clicking on it and positioning it elsewhere.
• Equidistant Price Channel: Lines of the ‘Channel’ are parallel. Two points must be chosen for a ‘Channel’ to be imposed on the chart. Click the left mouse button and hold, while dragging to your preferred position. After the left mouse button is released, the two parallel lines will be set. After the lines are set, you can edit their position by clicking anywhere on the bottom line and dragging to the preferred position. Both lines will move simultaneously. If you click on either end of the upper line, you will be able to edit the positioning of that point on the chart. Both lines will move simultaneously. To set the distance between the lines, click on the middle (highlighted) of the upper line and drag till the preferred distance is set.
• Fibonacci: One point must be set to impose ‘Fibonacci’. Click the left mouse button and hold, while dragging to your preferred position. Drag horizontally to adjust the width and vertically to adjust height. After the ‘Fibs’ are set, you can move it around the chart by clicking on either of the lines. To edit the width and height click on one of the highlighted points.
• Colors: Change the default colors of your imposed objects from the pallet of colors provided.
• Chartshot: Screenshot of the active chart window will be immediately uploaded to a dedicated webpage, with unique URL, allowing easily share the image on social networks, by email, or by sharing the link. To take a ‘Chartshot’ activate the feature by clicking on the icon and then point to the chart and click once more. Seconds after an image will appear in a browser window.

The “Orders” tab contains information about all Pending Orders.  All orders can be sorted by a value of any field.  The information in the bottom will display financial and settings results of Pending Order, which include: “Balance”, “Equity”, “Margin”, “Free Margin”, “Margin Level” and “Total Profit”.

All Pending Orders are displayed in a table with the following fields:

• ID: The operation ticket member. It is a unique number of the Pending Order.
• Time: Time the order was set. The time is represented as DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM (Day/Month/Year Hour/Minute).
• Symbol: This field displays the currency pair chosen for trading.
• Volume: The volume set for "Pending Orders".
• Type: Type of the Pending Order. these are four types of orders that can be displayed. "Sell Stop", "Sell Limit", "Buy Stop" and "Buy Limit".
• Entry: This is the price at which the order will attempt to be filled.
• Expiry: If set, the time when the Pending Order will expire.
• T/P: The placed "Take Profit" order level. If the order has not been placed, a hyphen ( - ) will be displayed in this field.
• S/L: The placed "Stop Loss" order level. If the order has not been placed, a hyphen ( - ) will be displayed in this field.
• Distance: A distance between spot price and 'Stop/Limit Order' entry price will be displayed in pips.
• Price: The spot price.

This context menu is available, when the right mouse button is clicked on a pending order:
 

• Cancel Order: Order will be deleted.
• Modify Order: A ‘modify order’ tab will appear where you can attach OCO (One Cancels Out the other - Stop Loss & Take Profit) order contingency, adjust trigger price and set expiration.
• Open Chart: This shortcut will allow you to open a corresponding chart of the symbol / order you hold (in this case NZDAUD)
• Create new order: By default will automatically open a ‘new order’ ticket template for the symbol / order you have selected. You can select either Market Order, Limit Order, Stop Order or Stop Limit Order.

 

The ‘Positions’ tab contains information about all currently active trade positions. All open positions can be sorted by a value of any field. The information in the bottom will display financial and settings results of open positions, which include: “Balance”, “Equity”, “Margin”, “Free Margin”, “Margin Level” and “Total Profit”.

• S/L: The placed ‘Stop Loss’ order level. If an order has not been placed, a hyphen ( - ) will be displayed in this field.
• Swap: Charging of swaps is displayed in this cell.
• Commission:Commissions, charged by the brokerage company for performing trade operations is displayed in this field.
• Pips: The profit or loss is shown in pips.
• Base Currency Profit: Displays the profit or loss of the position. Positive result means that the transaction is profitable, and negative means that it is unprofitable.
• Close: Close the position.

This context menu is available, when the right mouse button is clicked on a position:
 

• Close position: Closes the position.
• Modify position: A ‘modify position’ tab will appear where you can attach OCO (One Cancels Out the other - Stop Loss & Take Profit) order contingency, close all or part of a position. You can also use the ‘modify position button’ to access this feature 
• Open Chart: This shortcut will allow you to open a corresponding chart of the symbol / position you hold (in this case XAUUSD)
• Set Advanced Protection: Attach Advanced take profit (specify individual take profit target ranges) as well as the ability to instigate Advanced Stop Loss or break even contingency levels – (Note: cTrader must be running and connected to the internet for Advanced Stop Loss and Advanced Take Profit to work properly.)
• Create new order: By default will automatically open a ‘new order’ ticket template for the symbol / position you have selected. You can select either Market Order, Limit Order, Stop Order or Stop Limit Order

Swap charges differ from one currency pair to another and are determined by the liquidity providers we work with. These rates are quoted as points expressed as a percentage. They are amended weekly and can be found in the information (i) icon of the relevant symbol traded.

Open your browser, select ‘settings’, then ‘advanced’, ‘privacy & security’ then ‘clear browsing data’. When an additional drop box appears, ensure you check / clear: ‘browsing history’, ‘download history’, ‘cookies’ and ‘other site data’, ‘cached images and files’, ‘content settings’, ‘hosted app data’ and ‘media licenses’.

Manual configuration of the connection settings in cTrader may sometimes be required to connect from certain office networks or ISPs.

To configure connection settings:

• In cTrader Desktop select the ‘settings’ tab in the lower left hand corner:
  
• Click on ‘connection’
• Fill in  the required settings for your connection
• Server: your local proxy server Name/ IP
• Port: Port of your local proxy server
• Protocol: Supported proxy protocol
• Login: your local proxy login
• Password: your local proxy password
• Click Apply

If you use the trading platform from your workplace, then you may not able to connect to the internet due to a working firewall or proxy server.

In such case click on the cTrader ‘settings’ cog, then ‘connection’ then check ‘use proxy to connect’ Input the settings of your proxy server in the area provided. You may need your IT team to assist you here.

The platform allows to work with SOCKS4, SOCKS5, and HTTP proxy servers. If the problem persists, ask your network administrator to open the port 443 or set up the port mapping to access the server.

Otherwise try disabling your security, anti-virus and /or firewall whilst you load the platform then switch it back on again.

The foreign exchange markets follow the sun around the world, so you can trade 24 hours a day, five days a week opening from Monday morning (NZT) and close of markets on Saturday morning (NZT). Opening times differ from summer to winter but correspond to 5pm (EST) Sunday through to 5pm (EST) Friday.

Yes this can easily be adjusted from the lower right corner of the platform so your trading statements, trade times and chart candles are all in your preferred time zone. By default the time should set automatically to the time zone of your PC / MAC.

OMF uses liquidity via a prime of prime banking facility which includes liquidity from 10 to 20 international banks.

A market order is a request to open or close a Buy or Sell position, at the current available market price. Your request will remain live until executed.

A tick is the minimum price fluctuation of a symbol available for trading. For example if the EUR/USD moves from 1.36543 to 1.36544 this is 1 tick, 10 ticks in Forex equals 1 pip (applicable to Forex Majors).

The spread is the difference between the purchase price and the sale price (Bid & Ask) of the CFD contract at the same moment.

Spreads will greatly depend on the prevailing market conditions and the liquidity provided by the banks. In general however spreads are very competitive and at times of good liquidity they can go as low as under 1.0 point or 'pip'.

Depending on the volume of a trade and the available liquidity in the market OMF cTrader will automatically aggregate all available liquidity at the best possible prices and fill at VWAP - Volume Weighted Average Price.

A stop out is an automatic closure of a position at the current market rate. A stop out occurs when the margin requirement has been exceeded and the account balance is no longer sufficient to sustain all the open positions. A stop out is reached when equity falls to approximately 100% of the initial margin (subject to market conditions).

From the ‘history’ tab in your ‘trade watch (positions, orders etc..) otherwise a more indepth overview is found from the ‘Analyse’ function in which you can see your real time trade statistics.

Statements can also be configured and generated from the ‘history’ tab in your trading platform

Yes. The function to add a limit or stop order based on technical indicators can be written into the code.

Open positions will continue to run and will not be closed until an existing stop loss, take profit or stop out level is reached or you decide to close the position again at market.
