The company was formed in 1990 as Ord Westpac Futures-NZ-Limited, which took over various ongoing futures businesses originally started in 1987.
In 2002 Chase Manhattan Bank – the owner of Ord Minnett Group – decided to exit the retail business in Australasia with the New Zealand arm purchased by Management and a group of investors becoming OMFinancial Limited.
OMF’s principal business is to act as a broker in the futures, options and foreign exchange markets on behalf of private clients, corporate businesses, institutions and investment banks both within New Zealand’s financial and offshore markets.
On 30th August 2004 the New Zealand Exchange Limited (NZX) accredited OMFinancial Limited as the first NZX Futures and Options Firm to deal in any futures and options products worldwide on behalf of New Zealand investors.
